About Swagelok Scotland, Teesside and Ireland

Peter O'Connor, Managing Director

There has never been a more important time for companies to provide good value and support to their customers.

Swagelok Scotland, Teesside and Ireland have a focus on providing solutions that drive down costs for you, our customer, whilst at the same time maintaining high performance and safe systems.

Over the last 5 years, we have invested heavily in promoting operational efficiency resulting in the creation of an end to end paperless operation.  This was possible through a range of customized e-procurement solutions and supply chain optimisation services.  Thank you to our ‘Pilot’ customers for assisting in developing these industry leading solutions.

Additionally, we have developed an array of customised services including but not limited to; building sub-assemblies, asset integrity and hose inspection and PMI and Dye Penetrant test services using Swagelok products and Certified Technicians.  These new offerings have been introduced based on your feedback to provide you with a more complete service.

There are exciting times ahead most notably in our Training Academies where we are hosting a number of Material Science events.  These events presented by Gerhard Schiroky, Ph.D. are aimed at offering leading edge technical support to assist you in reviewing and creating safe and fit-for-purpose material specifications.

Thank you for your continued support.

About Gerhard Schiroky, Ph.D.
Senior Scientist, Engineering

Joining Swagelok in 2000, Gerhard is responsible for addressing customers’ materials issues and identifying opportunities for providing value-added solutions. He has investigated the role of alloy constituents on corrosion of welded high purity 316L stainless steels. Gerhard worked closely with Sandia National Laboratories and leading R&D organizations in Japan, to help customers with the selection of alloys for high pressure gaseous hydrogen applications. More recently, Gerhard has evaluated the corrosion of fluid system components in offshore installations; working with customers, field engineers, and distributor personnel on the analysis of corroded products and providing guidance on how to improve the quality and reliability of installations. He has an in-depth knowledge of materials-related industry standards and standard specifications. He provides distributors and customers routinely with a better understanding of the NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 international standard for the selection of materials for sour gas applications. He also develops roadmaps for improved and new alloys, from which future fluid system components could be constructed. He identifies and evaluates novel materials that offer performance or
cost advantages.

He has published many articles on 316L stainless steel, corrosion and the effects of alloy composition. His work has been featured in Semiconductor International, World Oil and Offshore magazine.

Gerhard received his doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Utah. He has authored numerous technical publications on diverse topics, including fluid dynamics and material science, and is named on over 20 patents.
